Homeowner Reaches For Rolling Basket And Finds Someone Tangled In The Wheels

The other day, homeowners in New South Wales, Australia, reached for their laundry trolley and did a double take. Shockingly, there was someone huge tangled in the wheels.

The visitor was a green tree snake who’d unknowingly slithered between both wheels and was now hopelessly stuck. Worried for the snake, the homeowners contacted WIRES Wildlife Rescue for help.

In no time, WIRES rescuer Inga arrived at the scene. Inga soon realized that the only way to free the snake, nicknamed Greenie, would be to cut through the plastic wheel rim. Inga covered Greenie’s head with a towel, hoping to keep him calm. She tried to cut through the plastic wheels, but they were too tough. Greenie was still stuck.

One homeowner suggested Inga try his electric saw, which cuts via vibrations and was less likely to injure Greenie than a regular saw. Inga gave it a go. Carefully, Inga released Greenie from within the wheels.

“Inga set to work … slowly cutting through the wheel rim and eventually freeing the snake — to the delight of the homeowners,” a WIRES representative told The Dodo.

Inga took Greenie to the vet to assess some minor skin damage. Veterinary staff treated Greenie’s wounds. The snake lived with wildlife experts for two weeks until he was deemed fit to return to his home in the wild.

Free and feeling good, Greenie finally slithered back out into the grass and trees, perhaps grateful to have been given a second chance.
